JOBS Program
MISSION OF THE JOBS PROGRAM
To prepare clients to successfully transition into the marketplace with suitable skills to maintain recovery and employment.
PROGRAM
The Jobs Program supports transformation of men and women enrolled in the residential treatment program. Housed at Gospel Rescue Ministries headquarters, the Career Development and Internships Program helps prepare men and women for employment and economic sustainability. In addition, the program helps clients by providing job related support throughout continuing care.
COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM, Morris Queen - The most recent initiative inaugurated under the Jobs Program umbrella, the Community Improvement Program (CIP) was designed to give work experience training to returning citizens from prison and homeless men and women but in a non-residential setting. The CIP “Fleet” of 12 provides street beautification, curbside & storm drain cleanup and neighborhood watch in residential neighborhoods. Currently, the team is working in the Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan neighborhoods in Northwest Washington, DC. CIP is funded solely by the donations of the residents of the community in which services are rendered. During the Spring months, the CIP Team will be engaged with the distribution of promotional material for the 2010 Census.
READY TO WORK PROGRAM, Samuel Paige - The Ready to Work Program (RTW) provides street beautification services but within commercial neighborhoods. RTW partners with six business and community improvement districts across the city. The RTW Crew was acknowledged at the March 2010 ANC 1C Meeting in Adams Morgan and the ANC 2B Meeting in Dupont Circle for their efforts at assisting residents in snow removal during the February blizzards.
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM, Lamont Gant - The GRM Internship Program is designed for graduates of our Recovery Services Program who have skills in various fields but have not worked in the field in recent times. Graduates of the Recovery Services program are given the opportunity to work within the Administrative, Development, Maintenance, and Culinary Services during a four month period. This 16-week program allows interns to work four days a week and use the fifth work day toward securing housing and seeking permanent employment. Phyllis Carson, a 2009 Graduate of the Internship Program reflects on the program and states that, “GRM brought back my life. I thought I knew a lot but the internship program made me realize that I have a lot more to learn.”
JOB SEARCH, Lamont Gant - Trainees of RTW & CIP and those who complete the GRM Recovery Services Program are moved into the Job Search phase of the program during their last 90 days at GRM, Prior to coming into the Job Search Phase, clients would have received training on resume preparation, and interview attire and skills. Those in the Job Search phase must make three contacts a day for employment through online and other employment sources.
